These terms are written in plain language by the app's developer. They have not been reviewed by a lawyer. If anything here is unclear, contact us using the address in section 17 before relying on it.

1. Acceptance

By installing or using MapPilot ("the app") you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy, which you can read inside the app under Settings → Privacy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app and uninstall it.

2. What the app is

MapPilot is a free maps, navigation and GPS-tools app for Android. It shows maps, searches for places, calculates driving routes, gives turn-by-turn guidance, shows weather and air-quality information, lets you download map regions for offline use, and bundles small utilities such as a compass, a speedometer, an area calculator, a world clock, country information and an on-device translator.

The app is built on free, community and public services (OpenStreetMap, OSRM, Open-Meteo, Nominatim, Mapsforge and others). It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a product of Google, OpenStreetMap, or any of the services it uses. "Google Maps" and other product names belong to their owners.

3. Maps and navigation are information, not instructions

• Map data, addresses, place names, route geometry, distances and arrival times come from third-party services and may be incomplete, outdated or wrong.
• Routing is for cars and motorcycles only and does not know about live traffic, road closures, temporary restrictions, vehicle size or weight limits, or lane rules.
• When a route cannot be calculated, the app may show a straight-line estimate marked with "~". An estimate is not a route.
• Turn-by-turn guidance, rerouting and arrival detection are based on GPS positions, which can be inaccurate, delayed or unavailable (tunnels, tall buildings, indoors, bad weather).
• Weather, forecasts, air-quality readings and any "road condition" hints derived from them are informational only and can be wrong.
• Downloaded offline map regions are snapshots taken at the time of download and may be out of date. Only the map itself works offline; search, routing, weather and other online features do not.

Always follow road signs, traffic laws and the instructions of authorities. Use your own judgement.

4. Your responsibility while driving

• Do not interact with the phone while driving. Set up a route, start guidance and mount the device before you move off. If you need to change anything, stop safely first.
• Voice guidance is a convenience, not a substitute for watching the road.
• Local laws on handheld devices and mounted screens apply to you, not to the app.
• The Speedometer shows a GPS-derived speed that may differ from your vehicle's instruments and must not be relied on for compliance with speed limits.

5. Location

Location features work only if you grant the location permission. The app uses your location while you are using it; it does not track you in the background. Location accuracy depends on your device and surroundings. See the Privacy Policy for how location is used and which services receive it.

6. Third-party services and hand-offs

The app sends requests to third-party services to show maps, search places, calculate routes, fetch weather and download offline maps. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies, may be slow, rate-limited or unavailable, and may change or stop without notice. We do not control them and cannot guarantee their availability or accuracy.

Some buttons open the Google Maps app or website (for example live traffic, Street View, nearby-place searches and "Open in Google Maps"). They do so only when you tap them. Once you leave MapPilot, Google's terms and privacy policy apply.

7. Advertisements

MapPilot is free and supported by advertising delivered through Google AdMob. Ads are labelled as ads. Where the law requires it, you will be asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can revisit that choice at any time under Settings → Privacy → Privacy choices. We do not control the content of ads; advertisers and Google are responsible for it. Tapping an ad may open another app or a website that is not covered by these terms.

8. Usage analytics

The app can collect anonymous, coarse usage statistics (for example which tool was opened or that a search was submitted, never what you searched for or where you are) to understand which features are used. You can turn this off under Settings → Privacy → Usage analytics. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

9. Availability, changes and updates

• The app is provided as it is, and may be changed, suspended or discontinued at any time.
• Features that depend on free public services may stop working if those services change.
• Updates may be offered through Google Play. Installing them is your choice, but an old version may stop working with the services it depends on.

10. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the app in a way that breaks the law, or while doing something that requires your full attention;
• misuse the free services behind the app, for example by generating automated or bulk requests;
• reverse-engineer, copy, resell or redistribute the app or its data except where the law allows it;
• interfere with the ads, the consent mechanism or the app's operation.

11. Intellectual property and open data

• The app's code, design and branding belong to the developer.
• Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and is available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Other map styles, imagery, weather data, country data and images belong to the providers named in Settings → About.
• Third-party libraries are used under their open-source licences, listed in the project's LICENSES file.

12. No warranty

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, availability or non-infringement. We do not warrant that maps, routes, guidance, weather or any other information will be accurate, complete, timely or safe to rely on.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any loss, damage, injury, fine, delay, cost or inconvenience arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app, including loss caused by inaccurate maps, routes, guidance, weather information or third-party services, or by advertisements shown in the app. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app, which is nothing.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under the law that applies to you.

14. Termination

You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. We may stop providing the app or any feature at any time. Sections 3, 4, 6, 11, 12, 13 and 15 continue to apply after termination.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, including the applicable laws of the State of Andhra Pradesh, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the consumer-protection law of the country you live in gives you rights that cannot be taken away.

16. Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the updated text will be shown inside the app under Settings → Privacy → Terms & Conditions with a new "Last updated" date. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
